They break down organic matter like leaves, wood, and other natural materials as well as feces from your animal and turn it all into plant food. After becoming established and breeding they can even be a food source for animals small enough to eat them.

One of the main myths about bioactive setups is that your animal may become impacted from the substrate. Our best advise is to research where your animal is from to understand what they can handle since most animals can handle more then you think in the wild.
